Scarborough Cricket Club

History

Welcome to the Scarborough Cricket Club - a club with a relatively short but proud and successful history.

In this section appear historic images that capture the spirit, determination and success of the club and its players over the past 50 years, and paticularly the last 30 years of WACA 1st Grade cricket.

The Scarborough Cricket Club was formed in 1946, participating in the Metropolitan Cricket Association until 1957/58, when the club entered WACA ranks for the first time with teams in 2nd, 3rd and 4th Grades.

After much lobbying and hard work by the club's committee, Scarborough earned promotion to First Grade in 1968/69. Success came quickly for the top side, as they participated in three successive finals, culminating with the club's first premiership in the 1976/77 season.

The 1980s was a relatively lean period for the club, with finals appearances rare and little success across most grades. But with an emphasis on home-grown talent and strong junior development , Scarborough emerged as one of the power clubs of the WACA competition in the 1990s.

With First Grade premierships in 1991/92, 1994/95, 1997/98, 1999/00, 2002/03 and for the first time, back-to-back flags in 2006/07 and 2007/08, as well as three Club Championship titles, Scarborough has become the yardstick by which WA grade cricket clubs are judged.

In 2002/03 the club reached the finals in all four grades, emulating the feat of 1999/2000, and at last broke through for its first Sunday League one-day title, with a memorable win over Melville.

Scarborough is the proud club of one of Australia's greatest ever batsmen, Justin Langer, who progressed from junior level with the Gulls to play over 100 Tests during an 18-year first class career. Other Scarborough Test representatives include Sam Gannon, Mick Malone, Tom Hogan, Matthew Nicholson and Brad Williams.
